MRI Unit at Bedford Hospital

AD Architects included two bespoke items for this refurbishment that produced a new MRI imaging facility, a reception desk an decorative screens for the hospital.
The practice designed the reception desk using a mild steel frame, concealed by solid Corian on the work surface and side panels, and a raised writing surface in Corian at either side.
The front panel is made of Perspex with an 80 per cent opacity, and concealed behind a recess is a lighting strip that provides a continuous light-blue glow to all the edges of the desk.
Screens are used to create partitions between the reception and waiting areas. Ion Glass manufactured the bespoke aluminium frames and fitted them with different glass to create a striped effect. A middle bank of Colorglaze glass in the colour pomegranate matches features in Altro Chameleon around the doorways.
"Ion Glass was chosen as it could produce an attractive and robust screen for the waiting area and interview room with a simple SAA frame. Toughened obscured glazing is used at low level, which provides privacy for the receptionist," says Adam Scott of AD Architects.
